Fedora 8 on HP6820s

Well, you're a happy camper with this model. Everything works out of the box. The bluetooth, card reader, wireless, ethernet, even scroll zone, everything.

You might be experiencing problems with setting the resolution to 1440x900.
This problems fades away after installing the latest ATI drivers from the ATI site. I did not succeed with the drivers from livna. See http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html for downloading. When I installed it it was version 8.1.

After this step, you'll be able to run compiz with aiglx; don't even bother with xgl.

Here's a photo with compiz started and avant-window-navigator on the bottom.

If you need more information or help, please comment.

I might do a video and post it later on.

Fedora 9, compiz on a 6820S

Interesting article.
I am now installing F9 and would like to use compiz.
Starting compiz I get the error:
[root@localhost src]# compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
Segmentation fault
I installed drivers from https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-dr...
But do I need to install the RH5 drivers..??
It is a bit confusing.

Regards,
Rob

Re: Fedora 9, compiz on a 6820S

Fedora 9 has the latest X.org server version that ATI has no compatible driver yet. So no compiz for now until ATI updates its drivers.
Subscribe to ATI Linux driver RSS to get notified when they fix it: http://ati.amd.com/online/rss/atilinuxdriver.rss?OTC-rssfeedlinux
You could go back to an older version of X.org but it's too complicated to be worth it.
